Consumers Association of Malawi (Cama) executive director John Kapito handed over a petition to Parliament on Thursday through Malawi Congress Party (MCP) parliamentarian Joseph Njobvuyalema. The move is in line with the House’s Standing Order 46 that requires that any petitioner to the august House should identify a member who can take the petition on behalf of the petitioner to the members of Parliament.
In the petition, Cama is asking Parliament, as an independent arm of government, to debate issues the consumers’ rights body presented to the Joyce Banda administration on January 17 and come up with solutions. Kapito in an earlier interview said, he decided to take the petition to Parliament after observing that the President failed to address the issues.
